Each of these fabulous smalti medallions is handmade by a mosaic artist in Antalya. Mehtin's love of mosaic was so strong that he researched the original manufacturing process for creating Byzantine smalti. A labour of love through trial and error he eventually recreated the antique smalti he so admired in the ancient temples of Turkey. By using recycled glass his smalti is not only beautiful but also affordable and it comes a palette and value that is unparalleled. Each medallion is approximately 10cm (4inches) in diameter and is between 10-12mm thick. The weight ranges from 350-375g. The back of the medallion is slightly matte with a texture while the top is smooth and glossy. These are easily cut using a hammer and hardie, glass cutter and heavy duty running pliers or our PowerPlus wheeled nippers. Custom colours and sizes can be made to order.
